UL 924 is Underwriters Laboratories’ Standard for Emergency Lighting and Power Equipment. Compliance with UL 924 not only safeguards the occupants of buildings but also ensures adherence to regulatory standards.
In mid-March, Keystone Technologies introduced our DirectDrive Emergency Tube, a groundbreaking product designed to meet and exceed the requirements of UL 924.
Many products say they’re UL Certified. However, there are different forms of UL certification. Even if a lamp or fixture is UL Certified, it may not have gone through testing of a particular UL certification, such as UL 924.
UL 924 specifically addresses emergency capabilities during power loss. It establishes baselines for ensuring that that lighting products provide adequate illumination, do so for a minimum length of time, and have sufficient battery power to maintain performance.
In addition, a key aspect of UL 924 is that emergency lamps cannot be turned off by mistake or removed accidentally. For example, if an emergency lamp requires replacing and a contractor replaces it with a standard lamp, it’s now lost its emergency capability – something that occupants may not be aware of until there’s an actual emergency.
Finally, UL 924 certification indicates that a lighting product has undergone rigorous testing to guarantee its adherence to UL’s specific safety and performance criteria. Non-compliant products may pose risks during emergencies, failing to provide adequate lighting or malfunctioning altogether.
The Keystone Difference
Keystone Technologies’ Emergency Tube is a T8 tube featuring an innovative design that seamlessly incorporates a rechargeable battery into a tube format, ensuring a permanent installation that cannot be easily tampered with or removed accidentally. This design addresses a critical aspect of UL 924. Other rechargeable T8s – though claiming to meet UL 924 standards – often fall short of that standard due to their temporary nature. They are not hard-wired to 24/7 mains and are not permanently installed.
Keystone’s Emergency Tube has a 90-minute minimum illumination duration, and Keystone driver quality ensures consistent performance, providing peace of mind to building occupants and owners alike. It features 5 selectable CCT outputs, and the 14.5W tube produces up to 2000 lumens in standard mode and 500 lumens in emergency mode.
Above and beyond
Along with UL 924 certification, Keystone’s EMRG Tube also complies with UL 1598C and California Title 20. It offers a comprehensive solution for emergency lighting needs across various jurisdictions.
UL 924-compliant products such Keystone’s EMRG Tube are not just about meeting regulatory requirements; they’re about prioritizing safety and reliability in every lighting scenario. As buildings evolve and regulations tighten, choosing products that exceed standards becomes essential in safeguarding lives and property during emergencies.
